Express Execute XQ10 - Part 2 - Increasing Traction for high speed low grip tracks  – Edward Anthonijsz

 

Following up on our team drivers Edward Anthonijsz's initial review of the Xpress Execute XQ10 posted a few weeks back, he recently had the chance to take part in a further 13.5T blinky race out at the Binona RC Track, at the Al Ain Sportsplex

The On-Road track at the Binona facility is a roughly 250m long high speed track suitable for 1/8 Nitro RC Cars and smaller. While the track is treated prior to races. The grip conditions are often very much limited by the dusty desert environment of the surrounding area, and in most cases considered low.

Here is Ed in his own words:

After a few laps handling the XQ10 on the medium-low grip track I felt more traction was needed on the rear end. The rear end of the car was sliding more than needed coming into the Apex. 

Here are the steps I took to improve traction and the rear end, and therefore overall handling (pictures below). I have filled in a setup sheet for future reference. 

    • Shock position - Moved shock position up at the rear shock tower
    • Flex tuning - With the idea that flex creates more traction, I went with the following changes on the car:
      • Removed the screw at the center of the top deck
      • Removed 2 screws at the T-plate at the bottom of the chassis
